Photographers without Borders approached us to deliver simple communications workshops to their staff, but upon further discussion with their Executive Director, it was clear that what was required was more than simple tips and tricks on how to use email effectively. We designed two half-day workshops that engaged the team in exercises drawn from Gamestorming, Liberating Structures, and User-Centred Design such as a facilitated Brand Values Card Sort, group creation of an Organizational Value Proposition, and building a Message Map for controversial projects. The outcome: greater trust was generated within the team and between team leaders and staff. They have experienced greatly improved communication within the work group, and the development of a shared vocabulary for understanding and communicating the mission of the organization to sponsors and in fund-raising efforts.
